Operating principle of magnetic sensors
The magnetic sensor’s principle of operation is Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) technology that enables non-contact indication for position and speed applications. The sensor can detect a magnet through many different materials such as stainless steel, non-ferrous metal, aluminum, plastic and wood. GMR technology allows extremely long sensing ranges up to 70 mm and high switching frequencies that are applied to the whole temperature range. M12 and M18 units are available with a temperature range of 0-100°C.
With a 316 stainless steel sensing face and housing, ifm efector’s magnetic sensors are extremely robust. They are capable of withstanding mechanical damage from physical impact in industrial automation applications and are IP65/68/69K rated. Their all-metal housing is chemically compatible with industrial cleaning solutions and will not corrode. The 24 VDC units have a PNP, normally open switching output, an operating temperature of 0°C …100°C, and an M12 connector for power. Two units are available: Magnetic Sensor MFT202 MFK3060-BPKG/AM/V4A/G/US is an M12 diameter unit with a sensing range of 60mm; Magnetic Sensor MGT203 MGK3070-BPKG/AM/V4A/G/US is an M18 diameter unit with a sensing range of 70mm.
